ALICE
The Beginning
Every single person has their own personal style and personal aesthetics. Fashion is a medium in which to express ourselves; our moods, our ambitions, our inner character. Without it, we would be uninspired when we dress in the morning, we wouldn't feel that rush of confidence when we piece together the perfect ensemble - the one that allows us to strut down the street anywhere and everywhere we go. But worst of all is that we would lose the ever important ability to show who we are solely through the art of self presentation.

There is no denying that there is a darker side to the industry; one of unsafe working conditions, animal cruelty and environmental pollution, to name a few. Issues that are so widespread that they effect the ethical standpoint of majority of the worlds leading designers and brands. The desire to shop consciously has become a slippery slope into an abyss of heartbreaking revelations. Every day we make purchasing choices which not only affect our own lives but the lives of millions of animals, millions of people, our planet and it's future generations.

This world wide industry effects all of our lives every day whether you like it or not. No matter if you shop at charity stores or Harrods, everything you wear down to your socks is curated for you by the major fashion houses.

I believe that the overwhelming amount of negative aspects of the fashion industry paired with the fear of losing self expressionism is the greatest barrier to becoming a world in which people work in clean, safe environments and earn pay checks for a healthy living, where animals are spared the cruelty and humiliation of mass murder and mutilation and where the clothes on our backs don't habour the lingering stench of severe pollution.

It may seem from the news, documentaries and even articles popping up on your facebook feeds that the world is turning into a cruel place - but that's not the case. All of this has been happening the entire time, we just didn't know about it. Although scary and often emotionally draining, this is the kind of information that needs to surface. It's the choice people make now; either to turn a blind eye or to take action and to stand up for our planet, for those who are suppressed and for those cannot speak for themselves that will change our world for the better.

Over the past few years, I have opened myself up to learning all the negative and have made changes in my life accordingly, changes that support the good, it's a path of constant learning and improvement, and one I am extremely proud of. I travelled from my beautiful home in Auckland, New Zealand in mid August 2016 on a mission; to join what is a fast growing sector in the fashion industry in creating mouth watering collections that squash the negative connotations around ethical and environmental fashions. To work with like minded people on collections which are mouth watering in both design and ethos.

It is completely and utterly our own responsibility, as individuals and as a species to make decisions that have a positive rippling effect. I have decided to take action.
